Default Newbie - Hello

Hi everyone,
looking forward to meet some folks in the area for some runs to Alice on the peninsula (+ AX) and learning more about Porsche cars and issues. PCA GGR member since 1994 and Diablo Region member since 2004.

We have had a 99 996 since new with 50K miles and some upgrades....

Fab exhaust (installed 12/03)
Piggy back chip (installed 12/03)
18" millenium wheels
Full leather
Hi-fi stereo
and some annoying door dings.

I am looking to upgrade the suspension: x74 or coil over...if anyone has experience on these please let me know (and where to get the best deal and tech support)

We picked up an 04 Cayenne S in Aug. 2003. Currently has 20K miles...
Looking to do the fabspeed bypass pipe in 2006
May upgrade the suspension in 2007

The continental tires OEM were OK.
Friend has a shop who can get a set of Pirellis installed on the 18" OTD for $800 and $100 for 4W align. Dealer wants $1600 for both.
Anyone out there have suggestion on other brands?

This is a beast on the freeways and even AX twice this summer (now I need new tires). We took this beast on a trip from the Bay Area to Vancouver. My wife was stopped once on 101 in Oregon and I was stopped once on I5 on the way back but no ticket thank God.

Life with these machines have been a blast!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

Well, Hi there. I am rather new to Porsches, having bought a new 996 Tiptronic about 40 months ago. It is my first Porsche and actually the first Porsche I ever drove. I use it as my daily driver and as it is perhaps the easiest car to live with on a daily basis I have ever had. I don't drive fast and have only been stopped on once in the past 15 years and no tickets.

I am leaving the 996 bone-stock as I am into modifications in a big way on my other car (02 Corvette) and figure I need to have one reliable and under-warranty car.

That's cool Lee. Vettes and Porsches seem to stir emotions in most people.

My still have good memory from my first Porsche, a 1980 SC, purchased in 1994 with 50K miles.
I was a sweet ride except that the previous owner lied about the mileage. I found out when Heyer Performance did a
tune up months later and said that it had about 80K miles[:@]. I spent most of my twenties sinking a lot of money into it
and decided to get rid of it and buy the 996.

Since then, I have had fewer issues and the experince has been much more rewarding.

Yeah, 'vettes and Porsches do stir emotions. A lot of people find it hard to believe anyone would own one of each, but I love them both. The Porsche is smooth and refined: it does not feel nearly as fast as it is. It is just a wonderful car, and I will leave it stock. The 'vette, as I often explain, "is not a car, it's a project." An 02 ZO6 with an aftermarket 427 LeMans engine and a supercharger, built and tuned for low-end torque (500+ from idle on up), with everything else upgrade similarly. It is a blast to drive but too special now to drive daily. My son and I jointly also own a '98 Camaro which is a wonderful, antic-social bad boy. 6.7 liter built motor witn NOS injection, roll cage, locker rear axle, and while it is licensed for the street, really too powerful and too trick for much street street driving.

Overall I am always amazed by how much emotion cars can bring up. I am often shocked by how personally people get tied up in them - criticizing their model of car is like criticizing them. I've never understood that: they're just cars. But people are people so I'm always careful any more to

Thanks MBS for the welcome.

Just came back from a 100 mile run over to Alice's on the Peninsula and as I pulled into the garage, the red light came on blinking.

Inhaled some turkey and decided to check on the car. What do I see, green puddle on the rear side of the car. Damn! Looks like I will need MBS to send me a new coolant resevoir tank. There goes $250 bucks.
