I looking at upgrading from a 1999 corvette coupe. I visted my first porsche dealer yesterday just to see if I would fit in a porsche because I'm 6'2" and 205 lbs. Well the Cayman was too small (not enough leg room) but I can fit in the Carrera 977 comfortably.

Motor Trend April 2006 (Cover Story) said; "In the near term, we envision 911s adopting the 3.8-liter across the board, offering 355 and 380 horsepower, leaving room for a 3.4-liter Cayman and a 3.6-liter Cayman S."

Are there any rumors out there in porsche land that the base 2007 Carrera will have a 3.8-liter vs 3.6-liter on the 2006/2005 ? This is worth waiting for especially if it is for no price increase or a modest price increase over the 2006.

 

Why not just buy the S which has the 3.8 in it already? I have an 06 C2S with the 3.8L in the shop right now getting a supercharger, full exhaust, and lowing springs. Springs and exhaust are on, I should be able to start the supercharger tomorrow Baseline dyno run was 300hp/260tq at the rear wheels on our mustang dyno.

 

Because there is a 10K difference in price. Why pay 10K extra now for a 3.8-liter 2006 Carrera S when I can get it for free in the fall in a 2007 Base Carrera ? I was able to retire at 40 something using this logic so I'll keep on using the same logic until it fails me. As a good consumer, I'm just looking for more value for my money.

 

Porsche, like Chevy with the 'vette, Aston with the Vanquish, and Ferrari with its cars, is always upping the ante: the longer you wait the more they will add They probably will add a 3.8 in a few years, and then something else, and then something else; - you could wait forever for the "next big thing."

I am very happy with the 3.6 liter in mine, and have no regrets. I frequently drive my C5 and the Carrera back to back, so I can state categorically that my vette (or even a stock one, I imagine) corners and handles a bit better, but does not drive as well nor feel as absolutely flawless in its dynamics. It is not the power, nor the sheer handling/cornering, that makes a Porsche so satisfying to drive and own, but instead its superb dynamics, linearity, flawless communication with the driver, and the high quality of assembly, etc.: 200 ccs won't make any difference there.
