1982 Ford Escort

Parents gave it to me. I beat the crap out ofit and it kept running. It would go just about anywhere in the snow with bald tires. Stereo was worth more than the car many times over. Ahh the late eighties, sometimes I wish I could go back, with Milli Vanilli bumping through my stereo, old wemen yelling at me to turn it down at stoplights. Those were the days.

1970-something bright (and I mean BRIGHT) electric blue Ford Pinto. The Pinto's were famous for blowing up if you rear ended em - used to call it my little Molotov Cocktail. I bought it from my parents for $500 and ran it all over town on about $5 gas / week.

Of course, at sixteen, I wasn't too bright. Got this wild hair to paint racing strips on it (yeah, on a Pinto) - so I took some masking tape and $2 worth of spray paint and painted this big white "Starksty and Hutch" stripe down the side. A bright blue Pinto with a big white stripe down the side - in a town of about 2000 people - not exactly a stealth car. My parents got reports from everyone in town about where I was and who I was with - Doh!

Funny thing is, when I was driving back up to college one fall with all my wordly possessions in the trunk (Those were the days - when I could fit everything I owned into the trunk of a Pinto) I actually did get rear ended by some old lady at a stop light. I got out of that car quick as spit. The thing didn't blow up, but one side was pushed in about 6 inches and the other only about 2.. I drove it for a year after that (hey, I was in college, couldn't afford a new one). The suspension was all messed up though - the rear end kinda "hopped" around corners.

Man, we've come along way from there..

- Nick
