You guys remember that movie from the 80's starring Burt Reynolds, "The Cannonball Run?" Well... loooks like they made the real deal. I found the website below...

The movie was based on the actual Cannonball Runs which were run beginning in the late 70s, etc. It was originally a very "private" by-invitation only event, not highly publicized, the first few years. Later it become something of a joke with everyone joining in and the seirous players backed out. Brock Yates and Dan Gurney won one year in a Ferrari Daytona - Yates talks a lot about it in his book.
I recall an article in Car and Driver that Yates did about that win, that showed what at first looked like a unremarkable photo take on from inside the car, over the driver's right shoulder showing the dashboard and view out the windshield along the interstate with a sign by the side of the road saying something like 'Las Vegas 80 miles" - until you realized the speedometer was reading over 170 mph. There was also really a "Polish Racing Team of America" entry in a van, too, a team that did try to win by fitting hughe tanks inside the van for carrying enough fuel to go the distance, never stopping, but them ended up needing gas, etc.
