I have an opportunity to purchase a 1974 911 Targa for around $3,000. I do not know much about these cars yet but have been looking into getting a porsche and think this might be a great deal. I wanted to describe the car and get some opinions before i purchased it. It will need a complete paint job, but it has no rust because it is a southern car. The car has i believe around 160k miles. The motor runs and sounds great considering it hasnt been driven since 2003. The issue with the motor is that once it is warmed up it leaks oil on the exhaust and causes smoke to come out around the wheel wells. The exhaust looks and smells fine. The interior including dash, door panels, seats will all need to be replaced or fixed. The owner took me for a spin and it seemed to drive pretty well for the shape its in and had lots of power. Does this sound like a good deal? I know i will need to drop the motor and fix whatever issue it has. Bottom line, id like to have a feel if this is a steal or an everyday deal. If i purchase it, i understand it will need a lot of money dumped into it.
