I have inherited a 1982 911. It needs a lot of work. My local store has ordered me the chiltons manual but it wont be in for a week. Can anyone tell me where the oil dip stick is? Where to check tranny fluid? I want to move it to my garage and dont want any problems till I get it there

 

The oil dipstick is found in the actual oil fill tube. Remove the cap and you will see it. There is also a gauge on the dash. Make sure that you check the oil with the engine completely warmed up and running at idle speed. If you check it cold, you won't find any oil on the dipstick as it expands as it warms up.

Transmission fluid is just like any other standard tranny, there is a plug on the side of the transmission, remove it, stick your finger in the hole, if you can feel the fluid level, then it is full.

 

Oh and cancel the chiltons manual and get the Bentley manual. FAR better. The chiltons/haynes manuals suck.
