Default BEST TIRE SIZE FOR 1982 911 SC

I just bought a 1982 911 SC w/16" Fuchs rims. I am not sure but from the best I can tell from research theymust be16 x 7 in the front and 16 x 8 in the rear.First off, is it possible they could be different widths? Second question, what would be the best tire size for these rims? They currently have 215 55r16 front and 225 50r16 rear. 225 50r16 front and 245 45r16 rear should fit the aforementioned rim sizes. Any reason I can't go this route? I am a littleconcerned the rims are not actually as wide as I mentioned because it seems the tires already on them bulge out the side of the rim slightly. I can always take the car to someone who knows to verify what the rims are but my curiosity is killing me...so I would appreciate any help from someone who already knows.

Thanks
