Glad I found this place! Wanted to run a "value" question past you guys.
I have a coworkerin some financial trouble looking to unloadhis extra car. This extra car happens to be a 1983 911 SC Coupe w/sunroof. Has roughly 75k miles, runs ok at best, normal wear and tear, but definitely not in "prestine" shape. Only driven on summer weekends.

He's asking $7,000 for it.
Good deal? Anything I should be on the lookout for? This will be my first time buying a 911 but have owned multiple 944.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like a good deal to me as long as it's not requiring any major work(engine overhaul). I recommend having a pre-purchase inspection performed by an experienced shop. They would check the car front to rear/top to bottom, perform leakdown tests on all cylinders, check known problems, and verify updates etc. You can check if the chain tensioners have been updated. Drive the car to verify proper/smooth operation of the clutch and gears. I could go on, but the main thing is look, listen, and feel the car out. My experience with SC's is that they are fairly reliable and good perfomers(even better with a 3.2 though).

As you mentioned, Im going to have a foreign car professional check it out first before I write the check.
One question I do have is what should I ask the service guy do? I know in a typical used car check they check brake lights, oil, electrical, etc.
For me, Im more interested in the engine, transmission, clutch, etc. Can a car service place do this? What else should I have them look at? What should I be expecting to pay?

I would say to expect 3-4 hours labor charge for a proper pre-purchase inspection. I strongly recommend you take it to a Porsche specialist, as they will know where and what is important to watch out for. Besides checking lights, fluids, brakes, tires, susp., etc. they should do a cylinder leakdown test/compression check and a thorough road test. There's more detail than that, but suffice to say they should check tip to tail/top to bottom. Inform as to evidence of bodywork/wreck damage, on and on. More often than not I end up filling at least one full side of a sheet of legal paper on a decent car, more for ones that aren't.
