Default 1999 Carrera 4 - to buy or not to buy- HELP!

Please let me know your thoughts! I love porsches but have never owned one. I am considering a 1999 Carrera 4 (no preference but the one I saw is a 4 vs 2). I recently had a 325 convertible and love the look and feel of a porsche.

I have been looking and am very surprised that all the porsches that I've seen have low miles - make me think that everyone's driving them sparingly. I plan on driving it as an everyday car and will definitely put miles on it. How is it in terms of maintenance, performance and reliability. Is it a car that I need to drive sparingly (or can it withstand everyday wear)given most of the 1999's that I've seen have approx50,000 miles which implies that it was only driven ~7,000 per year. I drive a minimum of 45 miles per day and really don't want to have to worry about the number of miles that I put on it - 12-15,000 per year. I'd like to enjoy it!

More importantly, Iwant to ensure that I'm not purchasing a car that looks good but requires a lot of expensive repairs. What are your thoughts on the 1999 Carrera 4 (vs 2) and things that I should look into before purchasing. After purchasing, what would you suggest as normal preventative maintenance so that I don't have any major surprises.

Love to hear your thoughts! =)

Default RE: 1999 Carrera 4 - to buy or not to buy- HELP!

Hi, ddwillis1, I don't owner a Carrera 4, but there are several expenses that I can think of, I learn on this forum that the tires last about 15k miles, which mean you have to spend about $1500 every year. Other than that, oil change, break job, etc. and Porsche maintenance is not cheap compare to other cars. I too drive my car everyday, so far so good, but mine is an 06, so it is still new. Anyway, welcome on board.

Nothing like a Porsche.
