I have been looking into buying a 2001 911 carrera. It has 26k miles on it and the asking price is $38.5K. My other consideration is a cayman S. If anyone knows anything about prices and or details about 2001 911's and would like to fill me in, i would appreciate it. I used to have an 84' targa but other than that i am relatively new to the porsche scene. Suggestions would be appreciated.

 

That seems like a good deal to me. Check out the KBB value before you make a decision. It'll let you line up the features, etc. to get a more accurate estimate. I just paid $41.5K for my 2001 C2 with 27K miles. With the features mine had it was right around KBB so I went for it.

The $38.5k sounds a little pricey to me....I just bought a 2001 911 Cab (18", Xenon, Heated Seats, CD changes, ABS, Air Conditioning, etc) with 57k miles for $34k. I've also been looking at 2000s over the past few months, and I've had several offers from private parties ranging from about $35k for cabs with roughly 25-30k miles on them....look at eBay, for example.

The KBB values lag at least year, so you should really be comparing the KBB of a 2000 to your 2001 car to get a fair comparison.

 

It appears to me the price of these vehicles varies more with mileage than with model year (as long as you're within a year or two). In your case you paid $4.5 k less for a car that's a one model year newer (virtually the same car - I don't think there were a lot changes between 2000 and 2001) but with 31 k more miles.. more than double the mileage..

Is that the final selling price? There's a lot of cars listed on ebay with artificially low starting bids, to generate interest, but with a high reserve. The car doesn't actually get sold for the final price unless it beats the reserve.

Yes, $34k was the final selling price, not some artificial auction bid price. Of course a car with double the mileage would be a lot cheaper, but in this case I thought the $38.5k was expensive for a coupe (I assumed that it was a coupe because the "cab" detail was left out) since I bought a cab, which typicallygo for $3-4k more than coupes,for $34k. You can easily find 2000 911 coupes with less than 50k milesthat havea $30k "Buy-it-Now" on eBay...

 

OK, I'll believe you.. Mileage does seem to make more of a diff than model year though (give or take a year). I didn't catch
the coupe/cab difference in the posts, so you may be right..
