To buy or not to buy an 81' 911
I did some searching on the forum and was reading up a bit on the 911sc's
my father and I were offered to buy an 81' 911, it is in fair and running condition(im not really to sure because I haven't seen the pictures, but this is what I've heard)
The car has about 150,000 miles and will become a project car for me, we were offered to buy it for $8000
What are the going prices on these?
what aftermarket parts are available (spending around 4-5k)
and any other info I may need to know about these cars would be great!
Thanks everyone!

The price seems very low.A good exampleprobably should been in the high teens. Of course this depends on what has been done to the car ( i.e. engine rebuild, trans. rebuild, recent clutch, etc) or needs to be done.
Fair running condition? This can meanlittle problems or BIG problems.Get a PPI... A pre purchase inspection is the best way to determinewhat needs to be corrected.
Most parts for SC's are readily available, butPorsche parts are not cheap .You'll find most things you'll need at Pelican andPerformance, among others.
The SC and Carreras have been named by some as " bullet proof", but they do require maintenance, and they do break down.. Be prepared!
Good Luck

Thanks for your insight Bob!
in the long run, if i do decide to purchase the car I will be expecting to pay somewhere along the lines of about 25k when completed
My father and I recently purchased a 924 turbo, and wow what a mess it was.. its also really hard to find parts for the car and to fix her back up is going to greatly surpass what she will be worth, i just hope it will be easier for myself with the 911 since parts are more widely available it seems.
Thanks again!
