Default Dealer v/s Independent Mechanic

I recently purchased my porsche (will post pics soon - 2001 996 cab) and need to get some input on where to take for repairs when needed. Is there a preference dealer v/s independent mechanic/shop? Any benefits of one v/s the other? Also, can anyone recommend any independents mechanics in the south bay (torrance-redondo beach-lax area)?

Do an independant pole of Porsche owners down there in the Manhattan/Redondo/Hermosa rgn. There are SO many Porsches down there there must be some reputable independant mechanics. You could always get hooked up with the local PCA too.
