Default Halogen headlights in old 911?

I own a 1981 911 SC Targa and it has become a day-only car since the last few family vehicles came with Halogens. I have tried upgrades to higher output bulbs but the brightness is just not their. Coolblubs, an entity that sells Halogen kits, say that the older Porsches with sealed beams are not a good candidate for this conversion due to the type of headlight buckets behind the headlamps. My need relates to an upcoming 7500 mile road trip where I would like to use the 911 but if I am limited to only day driving, it might not be a flexible as necessary to meet a deadline or two.

QUESTION: Has anyone found a conversion kit that works to upgrade? Or, has anyone just installed another type of automobile's kit with a drill, spit and paperclips or whatever the method was utilized to ensure they can see a "deer in the headlights" before they hit it?

Thanks for the assistance,
Ron
