Default Intermediat Shaft Bearing

I have a 2002 911 Carerra C4 which I bought 2 years ago. The engine blew in 2009 and the previous owner had a brand new 2009 replacement engine flown over from Germany and installed by a factory master mechanic. The new engine is closing in on 55,000 miles and runs great, very strong. I have done all the research, called Porsche North America, talked to the mechanic who installed it asking if I should do the bearing update....no one can give me a definitive answer. Shouldn't the bearing problem have been corrected in the 2009 replacement engine? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
