first, thanks to all of you who have taken time to post good substantive info on this site. Ive been lurking for some time and have read many posts.

I'm looking at a 99 911 cabriolet with 60k miles. It looks very clean and i plan on getting a PPI done but the 60k mileage scares me a little. It has had its 60k service and has a new clutch.

I have a 99 BWM 528i with the same amount of miles and it runs like a top, no problems. Should the high mileage on a 911 scare me off? what sorts of things (other than the apparent RMS issue with the 996) should i be looking for? What are the typical maintenance intervals for the 996s?

I like this car, love the marque, but i dont want to buy a maintenance problem.

any input would be greatly appreciated.

 

I just traded a 99 cab with 43k miles this week, and I have to say it was a fun car w/ O problems I can only hope that the C4S I traded for is as good a car,, Also you might drop a line to the PorscheDoc on this forum as I believe he, as other noted posters are a wealth of KNOWLEDGE in this Porsche world

If the PPI is clean you should not have much to worry about. As long as you know as you already know owning a BMW when they do break it can be costly.

I just bought my 99C2 CAB in Sep-2007 a 27k car and very nice. However if you are getting it from a dealer consider getting them to throw in an extended warrante. Just an idea. This my first Porsche I got a 2 year 24k warrante.

I've had my 99 C2 for almost 3 years now. 108,000 miles of pure bliss. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles like heated seats, cupholders,or even a gluvbox, (the cupholdersyou can buyfrom the dealer and install your self, whichI did,by relocating the climatecontrol unit), but it still runs perfect. As 99C2 said they are costly to repair, but I've found a good local shop near my home who does great work, at a fraction of what the dealer would charge using only Porsche genuine parts. At 60k you will probably need new spark plugs soon, and I would make the dealer prove that the coolant tank has been updated. Mine has been done, but these cars have a service bulleton on the coolant tank giving false overheating readings. Rear tires wear out twice as fast as the fronts. I've paid more in maintenance than any car I have ever owned, but in my opinion its been worth every dime.
