which performance change to do?
which is the better choice for a performance upgrade? option #1 exhaust system.. option #2 ECU reflash....option #3 larger turbo's? this is for my 2003 996TT tiptronic.. that is bone stock at the moment other then lowered and 19" custom wheels... I just want the car faster then it is and to sound more exotic, which is hard to get a porsche to sound.. I am selling my 2005 Lambo Gallardo with a TUBI exhaust.. thing sounds sick.. wish I could get my Porsche to sound the same... PLEASE HELP..
For the twin turbo, I would do the tune, then the exhaust. If you want to do the turbos, then you really need to do it all at once so you don't pay for an ecu tune twice (the ecu tune for the upgraded turbos will be different than for the stock turbos).
Hi I think the Doc is spot on.
I suspect that if you left out the bigger turbos but went for Exhaust, Intake Improvements and the ECU Upgrade you would be happy
! (for a while that is as increased power is bit like heroin [sm=badbadbad.gif]once you've had some you want more - so watch it[:'(])
I like the Revo Techniks ECU Upgrade, because you get the "Upgrade in a switcheable unit" not just a flash. So if you want to put it back to stock
- well you might[8D]. You can do so easily.

how does the revo compare to the other ecu upgrade? and going to larger turbo's.. is it just changing out the turbo's to larger ones? anything else needed? what type of performance do you gain.. and what is the approx cost? thanks again
Hi
Re larger or diferent TurbosI will need to defer to the Doc on that. I know the 996TT in the X50 form had different Turbos, as did the 996 Turbo S. What the aftermarket choices are I've done no research on that so I cant help directly. There are US companies that do this however.
The Power upgrades from most of the 996TT ECU changes are similar from my overview giving you about 70-80 BHP increase or approx 500BHP total with an increase of 80-90 ft/lbs torque with the ECU mods alone.
What I like about the Revo System is that it is switcheable and the Programs are stored in your little black box you get with the system, that just plugs into the Diagnostic Port in the car, to make the changes, then you remove it!You also have the option to completely immobolise the car against theft, it even foils an ECU change. With Revo you can have a free trial too before you buy.Check out the Revo USA Deals on: http://www.revotechnik.com/products/....aspx?pvID=519
at US$2,249.00
For intakes and exhaust systems there is a bigger variety of price and choice, and as I'm in the UK my experience will not help too much for a US purchase that makes sense for shipping and tax purposes. Indeed there are many US suppliers for these items that arealso sold in theUK.
The end game is I would say with ECU, Intakes, and Exhausts, issomewhere in the range550-600 BHP. So from a 420BHP start on the Standard or 450BHP on the X50/Turbo S, this is a sizeable upgrade and should provide enough adrenaline for a while.
These mods are basiclyall peripheral to the Engine. Once you start on the Turbos as well you are getting more intrusive into the engine structure.
Best I can do for you I'm afraid.
Best Regards Big Bob

GIAC is switchable as well if you choose to add the flashloader and stock program.
Upgrading to larger turbos will simply be that, and I would do the spark plugs since you are already in there (additional hour of labor or so at that point). You will need to then flash the ecu to match those turbos.
996TT's had the smaller K16 turbos, and the X50's had the K24's, which is usually what the guys with the non-x50 cars upgrade to. If you have the X50, then a flash, mufflers, and headers is going to put you right in that 600hp range. If you have the K16's, then you would need to upgrade to the K24's, muffler, headers, ecu flash, and you are at about 600hp. At that point my next upgrade would be larger intercoolers.
