Default Question for DOC

Doc,

I am told by the dealership that the Ferrari has what they call a "dry" clutch. The dealership went on to explain that most cars except lambo, ferraris and Lotus are wet clutchs.

I got lambasted at the ferrari forum for saying what I was told, maybe rightfully so. My question is what do they mean by dry clutch and wet clutch. Do normal cars like Porsche or whatever have some lubrication in or around the clutch. I have gotten curious now.

Thank you for helping me.

Lee

Uh, no most cars aren't "wet" clutches. A wet clutch is something that is immersed in a fluid, like with a motorcycle clutch. I have never seen a wet clutch in any other application. All porsches and every other car I have worked on is a dry clutch.
