Newbie Carrera Purchase Question

Newbie Carrera Purchase Question
My budget allows me to purchase a '01-'03 low mileage Carrera 911. In reading Consumer Reports reviews, they say'01 and '04 repair records are really good and '03 is poor.
Wanted to confirm. What is your experience like? Is it worth stretching the budget for an '04? If I purchase through the dealer, I can get a 2yr warrantee- will that offset the '03's poor repair record?
Thanks, Michael

RE: Newbie Carrera Purchase Question
No, you can't single out a year like that. Consumer reports has always been worthless in my opinion. I run these cars in and out of my shop all day long, and I can't say that any one year is more troublesome than another. I probably see a lot more 99's and 00's, partially because they have been out of warranty and I am an independant shop. The 03's and 04's are starting to roll in more regularily as they come out of warranty, unless they are in for performance items. Just remember to budget in maintenance as well, and I have outlined some of the big ticket items in the sticky post at the top of the page.

RE: Newbie Carrera Purchase Question
Doc, many thanks for the reply. Makes total sense to me. Appreciate the maintenance advice.
Since I have little mechanical aptitude, I'm planning to purchase thru a dealer to get the warranty. The dealer seems to put the cars in great mechanical and cosmetic condition. I'm using prior mileage and price as a way to sift through the choices.
Any advice on how to make a selection?
Thanks,
Michael

RE: Newbie Carrera Purchase Question
When it comes down to it, it is all about the options you want. A certified car from Porsche with a warranty is definetly a good way to go. You just have to wait until you find the color, options, etc that you want. Happy hunting
