Default Time to make the dream come true

After too many years of dreaming, it's time to get my 911. Specifically, I want an air cooled, normally aspirated, RWD 911 without any scoops or spoilers; just the pure shape of the 911.

I've located a 1990 C2 RWD in the exact color combo I want (white with an interior that's not black). Details of the car are as follows:

- 77,000 miles
- No accident, non-smoking car
- Paint in excellent condition (no scratches, stone chips, orange peel or visible rust)
- All documentation including service records available
- Complete engine tear-down, reseal and rebuild done 20K miles ago
- Engine was also partially overhauled including HD valve springs and new clutch assesmbly 20K miles ago
- Options include Limited Slip Diff., power seats with leather piping and original Blaupunkt cassette stereo
- Asking price is $26K.
- Tires and wheels in good shape with no visible curb damage or excess wear (given mileage)

Based on the service records, it appears that this car was down south with its first owner through 1997. It looks like it's been up here since then. Oil changes were performed just about every 3000. The valves were adusted at 14,540 and 18,395. The 30K service was documented in Q4 of 1996. By the summer of 1997, the car had 33K miles on the clock. The last service record I can find is from June 2000 when the car had an oil change and ECM check done at 49K miles.

I want a driver, not a trailer queen. I want something that I can put miles on at the rate of about 5000 per year with at least one big trip (1K miles) per year.

What do you think? What should I look for on a 1990 C2? Based on what you read here and what you know about the 1990 911 in general, what should I budget per year in service and maintenance to own the car?

Thanks for any and all advice.

Harley.

after checking Ebay, craigslist, and other ads to get a feel for pricing on that specific car and

if the car makes you feel good when you look at it and drive it, buy it...

26k sounds high but it may not be. the more research that you do the more you'll learn what you like and the right car will present itself

These two statements confuse the hell out of me. How can you have a complete engine rebuild, and a partial overhaul at the same time?

Blue interior?

Depending on the condition of the car, that price isn't too far out of the range. When you say down south, if it was a Florida or Texas car, then I would look at the car very closely for rust. Areas near salt water (coast) do a number on cars.

PorscheDoc, How often would a 911 engine need a total rebuild at 57k miles? That sounds crazy to me. Maybe I'm crazy.
