Working on a 1999-2002 911?
Hi,
I'm new to the forum andwant totake the jump into the Porsche community. I've always been a corvette man but was thinking about trading my vettes in for a 1999-2002 911. My issue is that I do all of my own engine work and have never worked on a 911. Is a 911 near to impossible to work on for the home enthusiast? I opened the rear hatch and only saw a sliver of the engine and I thought "How would I ever get in there to change plugs or do anything on it for that matter? I'm an engineer by trade and very mechanically minded. Just have no experience with Porsche. Your thoughts?
Thanks
Matt

Lol, plugs you get from the side/underneath. I think they are easy to work on, but thats what I do. Basic things like spark plugs, filters, etc are easy. There usually isn't a whole lot you have to do to the cars, they are pretty good with just getting gas and oil on a regular basis.

Unfortunately factory service manuals for a 996 go for around $1,800 new, so I'd expect that price to be reflected in any ebay price.
Basic service is fairly easy though. I hadn't worked on a car in 15 years, but just changed my filters.

By the way, I'm going to put this out there to anyone replying: Links to any online copies of the manuals will be deleted. It is copyrighted information. They are out there, but you will have to find them yourselves.
