Default wwNewbie 911 questions?

I'm looking to get a porsche 911 cab, I'm having second thoughts about the water cooled engine, and thinking about getting the last model year of air cooled, they must be perfected by now. Get the best of the last year, hopefully bulleproof and no lingering problems. Now what model would be considered the best of the best, considering, ease of maintenance, and not alot of known problems? Not looking for a turbo, I want soethong strong and sinple yet a great example of the marque. Thanks for any info.

I would not worry about the water- versus air-cooled engine issue at all: both work well and my personal inclination would be to trust a water cooled engine more, if one does good maintenance on the cooling system.

The bigger issue to me is that the character of the 911/Carrera changed a bit over the years, so if you go with an earlier "pure" air cooled Porsche (even one of the final ones) versus a later water-cooled model, you have a lighter, smaller, and more driver-involving but slightly less "GT-like" car. In my mind there is a substantial difference in the type of car, and most people like one or the other much more (I prefer the newer, heavier, more GT-like models, but many don't).

Hi Lee,
thyanks for the answer, I understand what you mean and I prefer the more "GT like" porsche so I'm gonna start looking for a 2001 and see what I can find.
