Default New 997TT 21psi Temp boost question...

So I hear that the new 997TT with 473HP has a new Turbo setup. The engine management allows upto 21psi boost for 10-sec bursts giving the car 502ft-lbs in the burst and a solid 457 ft-lbs over a massive power band on 'normal' boost.

Question for the PorscheDoc - with what you guys do engine-management wise, are you able to replicate something similar on the 996TT? In other words, do you have a flash tune that allows an 'over-boost' for short bursts that I can flash my 996TT with?

It's sort of like a mini-NO2 burst ...

Any comments on the new 4wd system - it's now electronically controlled instead of the 'mechanical' viscous coupling. How much better do you think this is to the 996TT viscous setup?

Overall though, the new 997 doesn't have as many improvements as I hoped, so less insentive for me to upgrade rigt now. I might wait a year or two for the S to come out. Hopefully with some further improvements. I was certainly surprised they used the old 3.6 and not the new 3.8 for the TT. Are they afraid of hittng 500hp????

They are probably milkiing the 3.6TT for the last few HP they can get and taking their time doing the needed upgrades to the 3.8 turbo: right now they have a lot of other engineering projects on their plate and Porsche knows they will not have that much trouble selling the new 997 TT.

We do not use any aftermarket management system on our modified 996TTs, it is all done through the stock ECU with the proper reprograming. Stephen ran 28psi at the shootout in vegas just over a year ago, that is with obvious engine work (rods, pistons, etc), turbos, exhaust, intake, flash, amongst a few other things. Obviously, you run around the street on a much lower boost level, i think right now he is hitting around 1.5-1.6 bar, which is in the low 20 psi's. The 996 engine management system is so advanced, there is no need to use another system. The stock unit has literally thousands of different maps in it, so it is capable of doing whatever you ask of it. We simply go in with the upgraded programs when we do our tunes. Our 605hp kit hits about 1.2bar which is roughly 18psi. The GT700 that just left today was hitting about 1.4bar, or 20psi. For a otherwise stock car, the flash takes the boost to 1.0bar, up from .7-.8max. The K16's will not hold the higher boost, though Stephen would have to answer the specifics there.

An additional comment on the "up to 10 seconds" theory. At even 1.5 bar, how long do you think you are in 3rd or 4th gear before you have to shift? It is not even close to 10 seconds.

True, but what about daily driving? You could be in 6th at 70mph, give it some gas and the extra boost will further reduce the need for downshifts (in daily driving).
