Default XM Radio used from Cayenne?

Guys,

I have heard through the grape vine (but not from anyone personally) that some dealers wereinstalling the Cayenne XM Radio system on the 997.

Have any of you heard this? I am wondering if it is true and if it is, is it something I could do on my own?

Great man, this helps me out alot. This looks like a "do it yourself" project but will dealers do it for me you think? I know that it is simple but I will work a lot of stuff but working on my own cars is something I don't like doing.

And when you did do it, about how long did it take you?

Usually takes a few hours. A dealer should be able to do it, though since it isn't something that comes from the factory like that, they may have a hard time getting it installed (at least that is my experience with most dealers)

Porsche Doc, you said some dealers, i find in my dealings with the techs that they aren't up on thinking outside the box. but if i may help ya a bit out on this... there is an easier way, if you look on all the sports cars, buy the vin under the cowl, there is a 7mm hole. what i do is add a metal bracket with a 1' 90degree bend up 4", then over at another 90 degrees for another 6-7" so it looks like a "2" in a way, add a terk XM antenna, route the cable in from down the left side under the velcro'd plastic, in through the pass rubber grommet , behind the left "stuck in the boot release handle" and down to the amplifier, jump the wires from the amp, disconnect the fiber optic from the amp, remove the fiber output of it, add a 18" fiber to that, then a new input clip for the fiber, and then add the disconnected fiber to the output and bam... less than an hour you are up and running, including painting the bracket flat black. oh i add a dab of "sillycone" to the bottom of the terk antenna to ensure it stays put. it will definitely lower your cost and time.

Clarification with the fiber wires... the sat has to be seen before the amp, which is why i run the amp input to the tuner and out to the amp... Benz has a 18" fiber also, i used to do it from them, but a guy gave me a crap load of 18" fiber cables so i am good for a while.

if you need any clarification or help with the parts or a source for the plug and 18" fiber give me a shout and I will be able to help you out. 440.716.2720 extension 5013

Does anyone have part numbers for this installation? Secondly, what is with the "Traffic Program" function in the screen shot? Does this enable XM Traffic as well?
