I have a problem with my 86 944

It is an intermittent problem.

I will be driving and come to a stop (light etc. ) When I am starting to accelerate the engine almost stalls. I push in the clutch and the engine on it own starts to accelerate (2500 RPM) and deaccelerate. It continues to do this for a few seconds. Eventually it maintains a steady RPM and I drive on.

Almost as it is starving for fuel.

 

Sounds to me like you might have a bad TPS. If it acts up again, you can unplug it (on the side of the throttle body) and it should go away...if it does, then replace it.
