Default '85 944 coupe

I have put this same post on the new member’s forum. I’m 17, and looking for a decent 4-banger that will last me a couple of years. I have had my eye on an ’85 944 with 47.000 miles on it. I worked for the owner of this car about 2 years ago. Last summer he put $800 into the clutch (it sat in a garage for 6yrs and it froze up) and hasn’t driven it much since. He is willing to part with the car for $1,500. Again, I just want to know the average life span of this type of car.
Any “wisdom” will be appreciated, thank you.

Hi, the Porsche 944 is a well built & engineered car, but it's how well a car has been looked after all these years that's important. The fact that it's had the clutch changed and has a low mileage is a good sign. I would say the best thing to do is to get it inspected by a qualified mechanic.

And then plan for about $1k in repairs/maintenance a year.

not a good car for winter driving if you live in a harsh climate, you can expect the ocassional problem with these cars but unlike some cars the ocasional problems can be quite pricey

Yeah your right about the 944 not being ideal if you live in a harsh winter enviroment, but 101201j hasn't said that he does?[&:] He might live in Hawaii for all we know!
