87 Turbo, what should I offer?
With a blown motor...
It has a decent paint job (no rust), clean leather interior, and supposedly only 55,000 miles on it. Its also a Turbo and he says the engine will need a complete rebuild. Just talking to him, he has told me that a mechanic has tried to rebuild it, and has failed miserably. So, not sure what it will need to get it going. So I am going to say a complete rebuild to play it safe on the offer.
I am new to Porsches, so not sure what else I can add to make this easier.Any half way decent price would help.
Thanks

RE: 87 Turbo, what should I offer?
You could be walking into a disaster area. My advice? Stay away from trying to re-rebuild the engine that the "mechanic" screwed up and find yourself a good used engine from a reputable salvage yard or other reliable source like the Porsche Club. A good salvage yard will even guarantee the engine for a period of time and stand behind the stated mileage at the time of purchase with a receipt that lists the VIN of the 944 it was pulled from. Obviously, try to get a low mileage engine.
Determine your cost to do this and then you candecide how much you want to pay for the car. Don't get hustled! Take your time!

Listening to this guy talk, he thinks this car is worth 20 grand with a new paint job and motor. Hes apparently the type that is insulted easily because of what people have offered him. I think he is just pissed off that he has put so much into the cars motor and its still a piece of S@#tsitting on the side of the road.
So a complete rebuilt motor will cost what?

Paying a shop to do it, figure anywhere from 6-10k depending on the condition of the bores, crank, etc. Doing it yourself, starting with a good block and crank, can be done for under 3000.
