944 head gasket job...
Just wondering what I should expect to pay for a head gasket job on my 1986 944 N/A. I'll also change all the belts while I'm there. I might also have to machine the head. Any idea of what I'm looking at spending would be appreciated.
Also, the car was in fine form when it was purchased (about 1200kms ago) and I have never run it hot nor have I taken it over 4000rpm (wanted to do the timing belt before I pushed it). One day it was idling and I noticed the coolant res. empty. I shut her off and noticed the temp guage way up. So it was hot for about 5 minutes at idle. Could I have done that much damage in that short time or was this a preexisting problem waiting to show up?
Thank you:

Head work for valve job, new guides, new seals is about $350
Labor to R&R the head is 12 hours
Head Gasket Kit is about $200
Belts/Rollers/Waterpump about $600
Hard to say what is going on damage wise until you pull the head.

944 head gasket
Thanks Doc.
Will probably look into doing much of it myself. Porsche mechanics run about $120 an hour here, probably for a good reason. I suspect I'll have to get to know the car though if I want to save $$ in the future.
Thanks again.
