Default This 944 is Hot! ...Maybe a little too hot?

Just wondering if anybody can give me some input on this, as it doesn't seem to be a big problem right nowbut it may bea prelude to something worse down the road. Under normal driving conditions my 944 runs like a dream, including the water temp. The gauge reads pretty consistant and well under half all of the time... except recentlywhile sitting at a drive-through I noticed the temp shoot up to 3/4 in justa fewminutes, which kicked on the fans. I could actually see the tempneedle rising. Is this normal for the 944 to quickly heat upduring abriefidle? (1984 944 n/a5spd.)

Mine seems to do the same thing except to a lesser extent, it doesn't go as far as 3/4 or a least I don't remember it being that high. So I usually drive faster to cool it down. But it's especially noticable during idle, but again not 3/4 way up.

Mine is just about the same when it heats up but the fan quickly turns on and keeps it halfway all the time. It seems to run better though when hot. I travelled short distances and long distance and never overheats so I did presumed that it is normal.

Thanks Ratnik and 944ever, that helps metorelax a little bit... being a first time 944 owner. I recently bought this Porsche wholesale (a trade-in)at the dealership where I work.Next week it will be on the hoist for belts, rollers, water pump and hoses, which will take some of my worry away...which happensevery time I take the car out for a drive.

I would install the 77-82c auxillary fan switch, which will bring the fans on at a lower temp and keep the car cooler.

Thanks Doc, but as I am still a young-gun in thePorscheworld andonly familiar with domestic restorations, I am just wondering if you could add some comments regarding the very quick rising in temperature. Is theearly 2.5 a hot idler by nature?

In the heat of the summer here, my temps will rise when sitting at a stop light as well (noticable on the gauge). The when the fans kick on, you will actually watch the needle drop as well. Most porsche engines by nature run hot and need proper cooling

That's exactly what happens with my 944. Now I can relax. Thanks Doc.
