944 S2, new buyer questions
Theres a 944 S2 I am thinking about making an offer on this week..
1. How much are they going for? NADA says almost $11,000 from a dealer. I am thinking about offering $8,500 and stopping at $9,000 and see if they bite. Car has 70 k miles
2. Its not turbo. I want to add a turbo. Will I have to get a vortech / greddy or is there a stock turbo from another vehicle or what route would I go here and how much should I expect to pay?
3. I'm looking to have the car for a long time. How much should I expect to pay if I have to rebuild or purchase a rebuilt engine? This sounds stupid, but my last car just had the engine blow (ford)
4. I cannot do the work myself, and its a Porsche.. Is there usually a mechanic around (not dealer) that can work on these?
5. I am debating getting an 86' year 944 N/A instead and have the same questions (almost) but specifically want to know if the turbo off the 944 turbo can just be swapped over to the N/A or no.

RE: 944 S2, new buyer questions
1. Good ones go for $10-15K
2. If you want a turbo car, buy a turbo car. Cost to convert an S2 to a turbo will exceed the cost of a turbo car. You can supercharge and there are some good kits around. Probably $5-7K completely set up for supercharger
3. Really competent rebuild will cost $10k with all new rotating parts.
4. You are going to have to find your own good 944 guy.

2. Not going to happen without a LOT of money. And since you don't do your own work, I would expect well over 10k to build a turbo motor out of an S2.
3. Rebuilds will run anywhere from 6k to over 10k for a basic rebuild depending on what the condition of the block and crank are.
4. Depends on where you are at, but you will need to find an independent shop who is familiar with 944s.
5. Again, if you want a turbo car, buy a turbo car. You just can't do a turbo upgrade and keep the cost down. It is cheaper to buy the 951.
