Default A call to all Carbon Fiber crafters…

Does any one here know of, or personally do, carbon fiber work?

I am trying to get a carbon fiber [hard] cover to lie over the farthest portion of the engine bay. That entire indention where the battery tray as well as other electrical components reside. As many of you know, under the circumstances when batteries have leaked in the past it creates a rust spot under the battery tray which sooner or later becomes a gaping hole; my current case. I have managed to repair the hole but for further protection as well as reinforcement I would like to add a carbon fiber inlay there. Thanx in advance!
For the purposes of scaling this is an ’83 n/a.

I'd also look into Kevlar - it is light and very heat resistant. Boat builders tend to use Kevlar and Carbon fiber for weight savings and Fiberglass for strength. Occasionally the Kevlar or Carbon Fiber will flex and crack the resin coating. I'm not really to expert on these things but boat builders (Kayak and etc.) use this stuff all of the time.

I made a similar repair to the floor of an old 914 (not rally a good idea but I was young and broke). After I cut away that bad areas I made thick fiberglass patches which are still probably on that car. I'd be interested in hearing how your project turns out.

Yes, Kevlar is nice. We worked with that on the solar cars due to its cost::weight ratio. It’s a nice substance but really not up to the riggers I plan on making this device endure. The main reason I chose CF over Kevlar and fiber glass is basically for its structure. The way in which CF is baked during final application makes it tougher than any other substance for this purpose; not to mention prone to much higher tolerance to the heat which an engine bay can and will produce, especially with the mods I am enacting. Thanx for the thought, but I am still stuck to the idea of CF.
