when i turn it on..the a/c....the cars idles ruff??? but when i turn it off it idles smoothly!!!what could it be..its a 1983 porsche 944...

When your A/C kicks on it puts extra load on your engine causing it the RPMs to reduce even further than normal. What is your idle set at when A/C is off? Mine idles at 1000 RPM withA/C off. I've been told that 1000 iskinda high, but I like it there.

 

nevermind!!!!since no one can at least try to tell me then i went ahead and messed with it now it doesnt vibrate!!!i adjusted the throttle...i bet someone will reply now!!hahhaha

I don't know what is up with some people on here. I guess they want you to look up everything in the archives or something instead of just taking a minute or 2 to tell you.

 

Archives are always a good place to start. This is definitely not one of the busiest forums around, and there aren't as many 944s rollingas let's say, Honda Civics. Check their forum - you'd be lucky to get a word in edgewise. Plus those guys will tell you all kinds of crap pretending to be experts while guessing all along. You won't find that here.

One thing I was going to mention (although I'm not 100% sure for your 944) is that some cars have an idle boost somewhere on the accelerator linkage. It is usually a solenoid that bumps the idle speed up when the A/C clutch engages. You may wish to check for this on your car as you may have a bad solenoid, if one even exists.

If your fix of just raising the idle speed makes you happy then you may as well just leave it.
