Default Different gear ratios???

I am combining two 944's and wanted to know if I have different gear ratios in the two transaxles. With the canyon passes around here I would prefer a numercially higher ratio. Here are the two VIN's, or do I need something else?

1985.5 944 N/A
1986 944 N/A

I got a hold of 944online.com tech and he said all of the 5S (ist two #'s on bellhousing) are 9:38 gears and open diff.

I got the bad motor pulled out last night, through the top no-less!!! I thought it could be done. Although the intake was already off, I still needed to pull the power steering pump and steering shaft...

Got the new motor in (from the top) and almost everything underneath back in. Now comes the fun of changing the wiring harness and all the vacum lines....
