Default Do I really need my Catalytic on my '83 944??

I'm going to be changing the muffler to a straight through magnaflow, Theres also a exhaust leak at the Cat. Would it cause any harm to the engine to just eliminate it all together?? would i get better fuel mileage? more power? better exhaust note??

Or would no backpressure be a concern?? could itcause theengine to fire improperly?

Any of you guys taken your Cat off??

The catalytic converter restricts air flow and is used for emissions purposes. If you remove it, you might gain a little power andyou will have a louder exhaust, but won't see any better fuel economy. In fact, you would probably push thecar harder because it sounds "better" and feels quicker which will actuallygive you worsegas mileage. Oh yeah, emissions. If you're in a place that requires smog checks, you better leave it on.
