I have a 83 944 that is sometimes lacking power. I'll be cruisein' along at any speed and it seems to lose power and sound differant, almost like the timing retards. If I floor it, it clears up for a few seconds. It seems to do it during warm up but also after it is warm. That makes me think a coolanttemp. sensor. Aside from checking it with a DVOM, any other suggestions could help.

Yup, I would suspect a coolant temp sensor first.
