Need Help ASAP
Hey guys. New to this forum and I need a little advice. I am looking at buying an 84 944 with 180k miles. BOdy and interior are clean but owner says the timing belt is broken. How mush would you guys say is a good deal for this? What kind job am I looking at with fixing this problem? ANy help is greatly appreciated. Thanks
Less than 500 bucks. If you don't do the work yourself, you are looking at a 2-3k bill depending on the damage to the valves to get the car running again. This is to properly do everything you need to do while you are in there.
To expand on this:
Cost of parts:
Figure a minimum for 4 bent valves (sometimes there are more, sometimes only 2-3): Figure $60-70 per valve
Waterpump, belts, rollers, front seals, valve guides, etc: $450 give or take
Head work, install guides, valves, work the head: Minimum $200-250
Labor: 13 hours to remove and replace the head. Another 3-4 hours to do the waterpump and front seals.
