A bunch of folks get all wadded up when they hear that, because then its "not a Porsche" anymore. Ignore them. Porsche did do some great engineering on these cars, and I have a certain appreciation for it, but I'd be losing my enthusiasm for 16V engines if I went through two of them as well. Renagade makes a pretty decent kit, give Ian Riley at 944Online a call (954-968-3766), I am pretty sure he can get you set up with info on the conversion kits.

Regards,

Regards,
Tell me about it! I instruct for the PCA at track days. I track a 2002 ZO6, did track a 94 Z28 (totaled in November by a minivan - LT1 V8 now available - the very one renegade recommends) plus this 88 944S (my son's favorite track car). A guy showed up with a big block chevy in a 928 - it was quite the sight....

The amount of money I spent replacing the last 16V (scored an 87 "S" engine for $2250 shipped) plus the cost of a new water pump, tensioner, belts, radiator, hoses, heat exhcanger seal, etc. All the stuff I did for 185 HP is really kind of scary. This is all in an engine that I have had horrible luck with {2 owner car, all records since new, 144,000 miles total, lost first engine at 122,000 miles (belts were at 17,000 miles)}.

I know Ian very, very well - this is not my first 944 - looking like my last one though. I love the looks and handling. Do not love the cost of track wheels (17 or 18s) or parts though.

Ian knows my credit card numbers better than I do....

I have talked with Renegade - reality says it will be $4k to swap - and I have the engine in hand already - still cheaper than another 16V though...
