Default Odometer Not Working???

I took the car for a long ride, and noticed the odometer was not moving. The Speedometer is fine. Anything i can check? Also is there a reset for the trip meter?
Thanks Neal...

The odo gear is probably broken. It's a common thing; I've replaced mine - same symptoms as you describe. You can get the gear from http://www.odometergears.com/ but be sure to take the odo gear out and count the number of teeth before ordering.

Just did this with my 87 944. Go to http://www.rennbay.com. They have the gear and the tutorial for replacing the gear. they're very helpful on the phone too. Do not, however try to pull off the speedo hand not matter what. It's held on with a clilp and it can be easily destroyed if you do. I pull the face screws off and lift the dial face to get to the 4 screws that hold the rest of the mechanism to the dial. very small screw driver used from the side will get the screws out so you can get to the gears. It's time consuming and you have to treat the dial and hand like it's going to blow up if you man-handle it. This gear is about 30 bucks delivered and it replaces the amber gear that Porsche puts into their speedo. Also watch the "e" clips and screws as they will scatter if you're not careful. work on it someplace where you'll find them if they slip. Hint: while your instument assembly is out, replace the 3 bulbs that light up your instruments with Sylvania 194 bulbs. They'll brighten up your cluster if it's very dim like most are. Also if you can find some aluminum foil with adhesive on it (metal tape), put that on the triangle shaped plastic that guides the light from the bulbs to the dial cluster. Also inside the recess where the bulbs go. It's worth the time to get brighter lights on the cluster. Good luck.
