Default Porsche 944

I am currently inquiring into a number of Porsche 944's. I am wondering if anyone could clue me in on what is a decent odometer mileage for that year and where I should make some real considerations should a specific mileage be too high.

Thanks.

Guys, I need to ask. After what I've read all over, should I be steering away from a 1983 944 and concentrate on one newer, as in an '85. I read that the '83 was just a 924 with a different body. I really don't want to make a bad decision and want the most for my money.

I would recommend a 1987 or later. As for the mileage it depends on past service!! When was the water pump last done? Has the rod bearings ever been changed?(known weak spot on these cars).

An 83 is definitely not a 924 with a different body, lol. The engine is completely different. While the early cars had lower horsepower, they are also lighter which makes them a blast to drive. There really weren't any changes from 83 to 85.1 other than power steering became standard (83 had manual standard). In 85.5, the interior changed to the newer style, suspension changes were made, plastic fuel tank that was larger, etc. The later cars eventually got a little more hp, but also picked up some extra weight. The interior is typically more favorable in the later cars and feels a little more up to date.

I know this thread is a little old but I must say I have a wonderful looking 83.5 944 that I've had few problems with and absolutely love it! Mine will be sold some time in the next year and a half but only to buy a 951 to build to a huge horsepower number.... Any 944 that's in good shape with good up keep is a great car no matter the year
