Default Transmission Conversion?

Thanks for all the help that was given to me in the last post. However, there is another problem that has arisen with my '86 944 and I would appreciate any help that could be given. I purchased the car without having it inspected (I know I know) and it turns out the reason the speedometer does not work is that the car has the pre-85 style transmission in it. is there a way to convert the tranny that I have now into the newer electronical system? The transmission seems to work just fine and it seems to have come from a low mileage car and I'm weary about swapping it out with a newer transmission that is just going to quit on me in a month. I go to school in new orleans and have had to move to dallas and had to buy a car recently(and chose this one) so money is tight for the time being.
