Default Warning Lights

Last weekend I changed the odometer gear and upgraded the dash lights. What an easy job! I really expected to be much more difficult. My question is....I have an '86 non-turbo, is it normal that there are so many warning light sockets left empty? I know a picture would be more of a help but I did not think to take pictures while it was all apart.
