Okay. IMO 968 was basically a warmed over 944 with some low-cost styling and mechanical upgrades intended to lengthen the market lifetime of that platform for Porsche, and not really competitive at the time. There are limits to how big a four cylinder engine should be and 3 liters is over that limit. It should have had a six cylinder engine in it and a new chassis to be competitive. I'd rather have a slightly older NA 944. Still, if you want one, they are not that hard to find, but many have been neglected, mostly because, like me, a lot of people feel the same about them and buy/restore the 944s or 914s instead.

If you want one, buy it - if you can find one and think you can find parts, etc..

I always viewed the 968 Turbo S as an extreme attempt to push the 968 past its practical limits. It might have posted test numbers better than its conteporary siblings, but I never considered it to really be in leauge with the best 928s and 911s of that time as an overall car. for the money, today, I think a really good 944 would be the most satsifactory ownership experience. Any Porsche (including the 968 Turbo S) from that era is not going to be "fast" by modern sports car standards, but a good 944 will still be comfortable, dependable, reasonably economical to own by modern standards that it is a very satsifying car. A 968 will be fussy, hard to find parts for, etc.
