Default 1 to 2nd gear syncro problem

When the transmission is cold and I start to shift from 1st to 2nd it does not want tosettle inplace like the other gears. Instead you feel the transmission kick out and then you hear the syncros grind. Any suggestions on were to start to look for a fix?[:-] 2004 Boxster S.

Thanks, Chris

Chris, I would start by changing out the transaxle fluid to a good synthetic fluid such as Mobil 1, swepco, or redline. This may take care of the issue. If that does not cure it, then it is possible the tranny will need to be pulled a part and the synchros replaced.

Thanks Doc, I will try the synthetic route first.

i have an 01 boxster s and i cant shift into second gear at all. when you try to put it into second it just pops back out and makes a grinding noise. even if u try to start in second the minute the car starts to move it throws it out of gear. any ideas on what could be wrong or what could be done to fix it, without replaeing the trany itself?

thanks Eric

That sounds like a transaxle rebuild to me. 2nd gear pop out issue.
