Default What to look for when buying 97-99 Boxsters

Hey all, I've been looking around my local area for boxsters on sale and found several 97-00 models that I feel are within a good price range. Just have some questions that I hope you can help me answer.

1. Regarding 97-99 Model Boxsters, is there a lot of known problems that they are prone to,

2. If they do have known problems, would a Boxster with say, 80,000k - 100,000k mileage on it be past the stage of worry for it already?

3. Regular Maintenance costs?

4. Insurance cost compared to other vehicles

Thanks in advance.

Just use a bit of common sense, look at the car, does it looked knocked about, look at wear on the seats, carpets, how is the car presented, and then test drive.

The boxster is pretty bullet proof, sure you do get a fair share of minor ****ly things but the car is unlikely to let you down as in a breakdown.

The 2.5 is a nice car to drive and has the 5 speed box which i personally think is the better box, the six speed has the same top gear ratio but you shift gears all the time and this keeps the engine at higher revs.

Read the forums and you will be full of woe, nut the only posts are about problems, not the ones without a problem.

Servicing is cheap if you can do it yourself, simply print out the service schedule and keep the receipts for the parts attached to the schedule, this way you can keep the service record up to date, the cost just over £120 and that is using Mobil one which is £80 of the total.

Porsche dealers do the same job for just a shade under £500 - and they dont even change the plugs

Sure the 3.2 is quicker - by less than a second to 60 but you cant race around all day, most of the time we are in traffic or speed camera areas so the speed is not the point to focus on.

I have had my 2.5 for 4 years. now 83000 miles - no problems, everything works as it should, but having said that i am a mechanic and maintain it myself.

The cars are great and you will enjoy it, go get one, you wont regret it, have some fun
