Default 928 Starting problems

I have a 1992 928 S4. It was in storage all winter, and when I took it out, it would turn over, but not start. After towing it in, the mech. banged on the fuel tank, and it started, so he replaced the two fuel pumps.

So again today it would not start, and banging on the fuel tank didn't help. After several tries, it did start.

Does anyone have any ideas? Is there micro-switch someone that does not allow the car to be started for some reaseon, I.e. the gear shift in neutral?

Thanks,

David

I can't say for sure, but when something goes after it is banged, usually means a lose connection somewhere. One thing to do would be to place a voltmeter on the connections to the fuel pumps and see if you have voltage there. If not, try again and move the voltmeter black lead to the chassis. If you then get voltage, then the ground connection from the pump to the battery is lose or broken.

If this proves to be the case, then you may want to run a new ground line from the pump(s) to the chasis somewhere.

If you get no voltage at all, it could be a bad positive line connection, loose fuse contact, or even a bad fuel pump relay.

Intermittant operation is so hard to find, it may be best to run a new positive line back to the fuse/relay panel and by-pass the existing line if you have intermittant voltage at the pump.

Hope this helps.

Hey,

right now, im driving a 1983 toyota tercel. (NOT WILLINGLY!) (will own 924 turbo soon! ) When i first recieved it, the car was setting for about a year. The car would turn over, but not start. I sprayed some starting fluid in the carb, and it started, but quickly died. Try that for me and get back to me.

What MY problem was....

the gas turned into resin in my gas line. Basically, what i had to do, take EVERYTHING APART, spray out the fuel line, put in a new pump, make a new fuel assembly cuz mine was rusted out. this sounds much harder than it was. get back to me on the situation
