I recently bought a 86 944 w/ 123K miles. Occassionally the pedal sticks and I need to flick it up with my toe. Today it dropped at a light while I was in first and needed to pull it out of gear.

What causes this?

Also, the transmission is a little whiny. It almost sounds like the cars always in reverse? Are the gears on this really straight?
