Default 84 944 clutch pedal problem

I picked up an 84 944 5 speed. I bought the car knowing there was a clutch problem. I have worked onVWs for many years but this 944 was a great deal. Looking under the dash I see that the clutch master cylinder has been replaced as well as the springopposite the master facing the interior. The shaftthat the brake and clutch pedal anchors to and pivots on is also fine but looking at the top of the clutch pedal shaft on the very top there is a notch cut in that you can find in any pedal diagram. There is also a hole in the firewall above the area straight up from where the pedal should connectbut it is not connected andit is actually 1/2 inch short of reaching the hole. I have a chiltons book and it shows the pedal detail but no detailon the anchor point. Im I missinga part or somthing? Will someone with a like944 look under the dash to note the connection detail. You will need a flashlight.I would appreciate any help
