Default 85 944 joins the garage!

Hello all! Just brought home a 85 944. Was a PCA car from the Pacific Northwest Chapter so maybe someone knows it on here? Car has 94k light green metallic on tan leather 5spd. I have all paperwork and maintenance records and it needs nothing! Nice driving car for being 21 years old. I am sure I will have lots of questions as I am new to Porsche. I am not new to German cars though so a lot is very familiar. Car is all original. I did have to fix the rear defrost as power was not going through the strut and the hatch switch was broken. A bulb was burnt out for the oil pressure guage and that's it. Under the hood looks nearly new, interior is in excellent shape sans leather shift **** and wheel is looking worn. Paint is shiney and nice, has a few minor dings and rock chips.... I don't know everything about the car but I do know it was originally bought in Idaho and theowner liked to replace the oil every 1500 miles or so from all the stamps in the warranty book and it had only 34k in 1994! This person even used a different weight of oil in the summer months. After that it seems it went through 4 more owners spending some time in Hawaii so I am guessing military, maybe Navy it was passed around and driven more and now I have it. Yes, I have some cracks on my dash albeit small ones, but I would imagine this is pretty common as this dash looks to be made the same as the VW Scirocco ones were and those cracked really easy. Timing belt is due at 110k and if I really need this 500.00 tool I will have someone else do the work which is weird for me. I can't justify buying a tool I may use once or maybe twice for that much. I poosted a first question with a very slow response. I hope this is a friendly active forum as the others I belong too. E46fanatics and vwvortex. Everyone is very friendly and helpful there and it is an excellent resource. I hope I can learn alot about these cars on here. I won't be much help for a while as I am new to Porsche, but was a little dissapointed in not getting any answers or even a friendly "welcome aboard" from anyone when I first posted.

Hello, M3944GTIslave,
sorry for not saying hi to your first post. I usualy like to welcome any noobs if I notice their post's! (I must have missed yours!)

As for this forum being friendly or slow... I would say this forum is very friendly, but, as it has come apparent to me, most members join, ask a question, then once they have got there problem solved, never log in again until they have another problem.

So yes, this forum can seem a little slow at times, but there are a few dedicated members that log in quite regulary and I think that you seem like another one of us who logs in more than once.

So, welcome to the forum, from one of the obsessed!

Excellent! Yes, I am very active....I enjoy helping others as much as I like to get advice too. Talking about the cars is fun as well. I am one who truly enjoys the act of driving and knowing one's machine inside and out new or old. I prefer to do all of my own maintenance and usually end up being the family/friend mechanic. Right now I am embarking on a down to the shell resto on my GTI so the Porsche was bought as my daily driver during this and then later on maybe it will be next to be new again. My GTI really is not bad either, shiney paint, good interior runs and drives. I've had it for the past 15 years! 175k though and it is showing it's age. I have always liked the look of the 944. The almost Italian looking body work, wide flared fenders and pop up headlights. The proportions are right on this car and still looks good even now. The mid 70's VW style interior is all too familiar and makes the car with the colors it has look like a mid seventies car. It's like a flash back almost. I can not believe it is so solid and tight after all these years although I have driven some that weren't but they were abused too. Is this color combo rare? I have never seen it. Most are red, black or white. I took it to my local dealer and it was mentioned there as well. Several people had to go look at it. I am not used to this much attention on such an old car. It is charming and a excellent cruiser! You can lug it down and it pulls back up so smoothly. Very tractible and smooth it is a joy to drive daily unlike my M which is always on it's haunches waiting for lift off. No comparrison in the handling or power department, but still a very impressive car I know I will enjoy for years to come and it's OLD! I would have bought one years a go had I known it was so easy and pleasurable to drive. No hot rod, but there is more to life right? I look forward to maintaining this car and giving it a good home.

Color is light green metallic on tan and dark brown....don't know if pics made it
