Was there much left of it? I have heard if you hit pretty much anything hard with a lotus, the car is pretty much a total loss. Not sure if that is true or not.

What you have heard is true.

The body was cracked, it's fiberglass, and just a mess.
Very fun car to drive, but when compared to my new pride and joy, was way to minamalistic.

I forgot what a comfortable car not a track toy felt like.

Pros of Lotus

Handled on dry days like a dream.
I liked the lines of the car.

Cons:
Tailgaters, blind spot lurkers, & street race challenges.
Getting in and out, especially for a non-accustomed passenger.
Rattles, leaks, and poorly put together.

Felt like I was driving a mini Ferrari.

I don't plan on buying one ever again.

Since way back when with the original Elite, I've always like the idea of Lotus street cars better than the cars themselves. Lite, minimalist cars sound nice and make elegant sense, but are really a pain. Liked the original Elan, though, but not how even a hard sneeze would crack the bodywork.

 

I have a freind that rebuilds old lotuses from the frame up. (typically late 60-70's era, europas I think?). He was showing me a frame out of one, so light you could pick it up easily by yourself. Unreal that there wasn't more to it.

 

two things. one does your friend happen to live in LA? because Id be happy to give him a hand with his restorations.

and two. is the elise and more comfortable than the exige? I know the exige is a much faster/expensive car but i was wondering if you had an opinion on the elise.

 

I've never driven an Elise, but if I'd have to do it all over again and it was a decision between the Elise and Exige, both stock base models, I'd really have to consider the Elise. Not being able to see behind me except through a small patch of road behind me through a mesh engine bay cover was really becoming old.

what happend exactly? I have an Elise. Did you total the car? How bad was the damage?
Any mods on the cars? looking for mods for my car.
