Need 996 exhaust recommendations
Bought a 2001 911 C2 and the OEM exhaust is too quiet. I removed the mufflers and went with a muffler bypass solution but that is too loud and too much low RPM resonance. I like the weight reduction but need some suggestions for an in between sound level. I don't want to spend $2k for mufflers so I plan to weld in glass packs where the current mufflers are. Any other ideas. I usually use Tubi's or other SS aftermarket solutions for my Lambo's and Ferrari's but don't want to spend that much on my 911 since I only plan to keep it for another 6 months or so.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I know the 993 guys do this, but I have never tried it on a 996 can which is fairly similar. Take the cans off the car, get some 2" S/S pipe and weld it between the inlet and the outlet to the muffler (obviously cutting a hole in the process in each in/outlet). Basically it allows some of the exhaust to bypass the muffler which is very similar to the Porsche sport exhaust. MOst of the guys are spending 20 bucks in pipe, and $100-150 at their local welding shop. I'll do some digging and see if I can find out if the 996 guys are doing this as well.
One of the best sounding exhausts I have heard on a 993 yet is this simple mod.

Looks like Fister is doing them to the 996 as well, so it must work.

This is a 993 muffler, but the design is similar:
