Brake job. Snow Job?

Default Brake job. Snow Job?

I own a 2007 911 and recently took it in to the dealer with 45,000 miles. The service rep said that the car needed new brakes that the rear have 1mm left and the fronts 3mm. The price for the broke job was $2,500 which I thought was very high. but since this is my first porsche and I trusted the dealer I went ahead with the job. When I got the invoive I noticed an item called "brake disc" which I assume is the rotor. one of the part number was 351-409-03. There was no memtion of any brake damage and I have never had to replace rotors on a car. Is this a normal brake job, to replace the rotors and is $2,500 the standard rate for doing the 4 wheels? Any insight is appreciated.

Yes, it is pretty standard to replace the pads and rotors/discs together so the material beds together. Typically though you can go a little longer life wise on a set of rotors, but they may not last for another full set of pads, etc. I assume your little brake warning light came on the dash telling you to replace pads? If it was not on, then no way were the pads that thin.

My opinion of having work done at a dealer is like throwing money away for no good reason. Yes, they will do fine work, but they overcharge people like you that don't know any better. Why? Because they can, and they know it. I don't know if you have ceramic brakes or just the standard brakes, or what model 911 you have, but this is what I charged last brake change on a 2005 911 C2. Ceramic brakes are going to make the cost go up significantly.

Front Rotors/Discs: 140 each x 2 = $280
Front pads: $140
Rear Rotors/Discs: 140 each x 2 = $280
Rear pads: $130
Wear sensors: $15 each x 4 = $60
Labor: 4 hours x $50 = $200

Grand total: A little over a grand out the door.

no the brake sensor didnt go off. i think the dealer saw an opportunity when i took it in for a airbag sensor problem and i fell for it. i will be a bit more carefull next time. outside of this problem things have been great with my 911s.

of thats sad..these dealers do play a lot of games..whenever you give your porsche baby to these dealers make sure you know everything about the issue.. take a prior concern always.
